After graduation, Kira got a job as a Production Assistant at DreamWorks Animation on the feature film Flushed Away, where she was promoted to Production Office Coordinator after just 6 months. Towards the end of the film, she even got to sit in on a recording session with Hugh Jackman. It was shortly after watching this session Kira realized that it was time mix a little more performance variety into her schedule. So after almost 2 years at DWA, Kira set out to pursue a few more acting opportunities, while using her Production know how as a freelance Production Coordinator to help “pay the bills.” In an effort to learn more about live action production, she also worked additional internships at Acme Talent & Literary and Susan Bluestein Casting (NCIS).
Now feeling much, “older and wiser,” Kira has abandoned the 40-year-old mindset she was born with, thrown caution (almost) to the wind, and manages to work in casting full time, while balancing her acting career as well. While most people find it difficult to dedicate themselves fully to more than one thing, Kira is content, and actually finds it necessary, to have many different projects sloshing around in her head at once. “It helps keep the voices in my head quiet. Plus, casting gives me a much needed outlet for my more organizational side.”
She appreciates that Megan and Chuck give her a lot of creative freedom to be involved in important company conversations and that they welcome her honest feedback. “That’s what I was hired for,” she states matter of factly, “‘Supposedly’ I’m the ‘hip and trendy’ side of things, and Megan and Chuck have 20 years worth of contacts and experience, so we all complement each other incredibly well, not to mention the fact that we just get along well as people. We all like to talk…a lot.”
In her free time, Kira enjoys writing, traveling (11 countries and counting) reading, baking rainbow chip cupcakes, sitting and starring at things in museums for long periods of time, hosting dinner parties for friends, studying improv, and rocking out in her car on the 101.
